Hello Old Friend

On the parts of yourself you'd thought were gone — and the small joy of finding them still in there.

This is for the version of you that you used to be. The one who’s still in there, somewhere.

Hello old friend
We meet once again
It’s been so long
You hardly look the same

I missed you
You’re so different now
But there’s still some of that you
In there somewhere

I’m glad to see you still smile
From what once brought you joy
Sometimes going back to your roots
Can only help you blossom

I thought you were gone
And that made me sad
But I’m happy you came back
To where it all began

You don’t actually lose the past versions of yourself. They get buried, sometimes, by what came after. But they’re still in there. Hello old friend. The little ones survive longer than you’d think.
