I Hope I Can Be Proud

On the quiet wish to like the person you become — and to have made some good in someone else along the way.

Most of us want to like ourselves at the end. The poem is just an honest list of the things that requires.

I hope I can be proud
Of the journey I’m on
Of the choices I make
Of what’s come and gone

I hope to make peace with it all
The good and the bad
The heartaches, the growing pains
Embrace being happy, embrace being sad

I want to make the right decisions
But not hurt a soul
Is that even possible?
I’ll continue setting goals

I hope you’ll be proud
Of all the things you do
Of the lives you’ll impact
Of how there’s only one you

The closing flips the camera around. The hope isn’t just for me. It’s for you too. There’s only one you. Live like that’s true.
