It Doesn't Take Much

On what kids still know that we forgot — and the small price of remembering.

A piece for the small things. Inspired by every kid I’ve ever watched, and the version of me that used to know what they still know.

It doesn’t take much
A simple game that costs nothing to play
A kind gesture that goes a long way
It doesn’t take much

They often learn rapidly
Yet there’s much for them to learn
Their innocence must be preserved
It’s what any child deserves

Their little hands should be held
So they know that they’re safe
And that it’s okay to make a silly face
Somewhere along the way, we forgot how

It doesn’t take much
We can learn a lot from them
About the little things in life
It doesn’t take much

Kids haven’t yet learned to be embarrassed about joy. They run, they ask, they cry, they recover, they forget about it five minutes later. The grown-up version of all of that costs more than it should. It doesn’t take much. The smaller version is still available. We just have to remember how.
