What It Means to Be Human

On the small, unselfish gestures — and the quiet realization of what they're actually for.

A small one about giving when you didn’t really feel like it. And about what it shows you when you do.

I didn’t want to do it
I didn’t think I’d care
But when I saw its impact
I realized what it means to share

Whether it’s a simple gesture
Or a little bit of your time
Doing something for someone else
Will help you realign

What it means to be human
What it means to be kind
To express oneself in unselfish ways
May just be the best path to unwind

The gesture isn’t always for them. Sometimes it’s for the realignment it does inside you. Doing something for someone else will help you realign. That’s the part most self-help leaves out — the helping is partly self-care, and the self-care is partly about getting out of your own head for a minute.
